Not Seeing and Seeing

Text: Luke 18: 31-43

Reflection and Question: The contrast is stark between the disciples who are blind to the road of suffering, death and life that Jesus outlines for them and the blind man who persists in his plea for sight and is commended for his faith. Perhaps we are to confess the ways in which we are blind like the disciples and to learn to persist in faith, which will give us sight. How are you blind like the disciples? How has your faith given you sight like the blindman?

Prayer: Merciful Jesus, we confess that we can be as blind as the disciples were when you shared what was to come in Jerusalem. May we have the faith of the blind man who shouted even more loudly so that You may bless us with sight to see Your way and with the courage to follow. Amen.

This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
